Hi, I really enjoyed my visit recently. Love my Aqua chime. Delighted to be able to tell you that St. Cecilia is the Patron Saint of musicians. Lovely shop.

I participated at Gandharva Loka's performance in Rabindra Sarobar at Dhaka, Bangladeh. It was so touching to me. I felt the music and unconciously my eyes were full tear in some times. May be I wont be able with you physically but I shall keep in mind these few hours in my whole life. I felt that I have found peace in the power of your music. Wishing to be a part of you....

The concert on the occasion of the 20th anniversary was possibly the most diversified and touching, most euphonic-meditative and world-embracing that I ever experienced! :)

Shardul:
Today I visited Gandharva Loka in Christchurch. It is a lovely little place and full of all sorts of inspiring instruments. The owners were friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. While I was there, a number of musicians came in and we were all appreciating each others music - it was great fun! Shops like that are a focal point for creative and interesting people. I look forward to returning.
Thanks Luke and Lauren,
Shardul

Eduard Weber:
Well, what should I write down in your guestbook? That I feel miserable to live so far away? I would appreciate it if you would have a shop in or near Berlin.
Kindest regards
Eduard Weber

Comment from Angelika Zedrosser:
Yesterday’s workshop in the Wernberg Monastery was an impressive experience that had great impact on me. Certainly nothing new for you, but for me I can only reflect the experience. In the evening I was exhausted and purified; I felt like I had walked for hours in the mountains. The vibrations were working for a long time. Today I felt new born. My sensual feelings were and are so sensitve, in a way that I have only experienced after an intense weekend of meditation. Many thanks for this new and true experience—I am looking forward to getting a Kalimba. Kindest regards from Kärnten.
Angelika

Michael Ratt:
My wife and I were in Salzburg 2 1/2 years ago and we still talk about your shop!

The Sound Cradle made quite an impression on both of us, and yes, we're still trying to figure out how to get one over here.... I'm sure we'll do it in time.

Great to see the website up and running,
be well, brightest blessings

GANDHARVA LOKA CELEBRATES ITS 20th ANNIVERSARY

On May 16th, 1989 our first World Music Store opened in Zurich. Since then, four more branches have grown up in Austria, and in 2008 the latest opened in Christchurch, New Zealand. In this period of 20 years much has happened in the realm of World Music: instruments from other cultures have become widely known and loved for their special sounds, enriching classical and traditional music. They are also widely used In therapy and education.

To celebrate the anniversary, Anne from the Zurich store organized a concert comprising 20 performances. More than 30 musicians participated — all friends and customers of Gandharva Loka. This concert took place on May 16th, 2009 in the Helferei Cultural Center, an appropriate location in the old city of Zurich.

A Sound-Journey at 4pm offered many interested visitors an intense sound experience, allowing them to experience these special instruments first-hand. At 5pm the musicians started a unique performance on musical instruments from all over the world: Native American Flute, Sitar, Gongs, Balafon, Erhu, Kotamo, Alphorn, Kora, Gu Zheng – to name only a few. Musicians as well listeners were so fascinated by themagic of sound that the concert became a music marathon that lasted till midnight. During the breaks new visitors joined and a delicious buffet offered culinary delight and new energy for everyone!

For many visitors the concert was a totally new musical experience, as they had ever seen or heard such instruments before. Some were absorbed in such a way that they totally forgot about the schedule of their trains or buses. Many of them later expressed their gratitude and joy, either personally or by phone to Anne whose weeklong efforts made the concert happen. They all received the music with great enthusiasm and joy.

To us as the Gandharva Loka team it is a wonderful reward and confirmation for all the years of personal effort. It is our heartfelt wish to offer and share the wealth of World Music with as many people as possible. We are happy when the fullness of extraordinary sounds can enrich your own life too.

Here we wish to thank all those whose contribution and help made the celebration a real success.
